Hello,

I’m brand new to building and I’m about to embark on this journey.

I’m going to order the confidence booster kit, a reasonably simple pedal, and one of the premium pedals. I’m wondering which might be the most apprpropriate builds for a new guy.

I’m primarily interested in Vibrato, OD, Boost, fuzz phase, flanger. So mostly modulation (no chorus please) and gain pedals.

No need for compressor, eq, or any of that stuff (yet).

As far as the premium pedals go, I’m interested in the Phase Royal, Echo, Royal, Crown Jewel, Analog Vibrato. I’d choose the delay or crown jewel if I had to make a choice based on interest.

Can I have a couple of recommendations, basing your suggestions on ease of build?

I’ll eventually get more, particularly the premium pedals, but I’d like to start with a couple of manageable pedals first.

Thanks.

The mouse or classic over drive are great sounding pedals that are relatively easy to build (once you complete the confidence boost kit).

Either the MOSFET Boost or the silicon version of the ESV Fuzz are good kits for novice builders. Low part count and very straightforward builds. If you want something a bit more complicated but still not too difficult, the Green Pony is a great sounding and very flexible Tube Screamer type overdrive circuit. From what you listed, those would be my recommendations.

Thanks.

I went ahead and ordered a Classic OD and Confidence Booster Kit.

Once I get my feet wet, I’m all over a Crown Jewel and probably an Echo Royal.

The Classic overdrive may not be the easiest pedal for a beginner but it is relatively easy.

It’s also a great pedal because it’s versatile for many types of music.

Also don’t be discouraged if you mess up and destroyed a pedal. Just get another one and start over. That happened to me. Eventually you’ll get it right like how I did.
