I built this and and doesn't work. The circuit is dead simple, and while my build skills are a bit rusty I don't think my workmanship is the problem (although I'll reflow everything to be sure). Rather, I suspect the diodes are in backwards, but I can't confirm that -- I can't find any info about the supplied diodes, or what a dot on one end means. See pic. Can anybody help?

Thanks!

Two things:

  1. "Doesn't work" is not really informative. Can you please describe in more detail how the module acts?
  2. A better photograph would be very helpful, as would an additional shot of the solder side.

Thanks for responding Matt.

I get no sound at all. I'm happy to post another pic (although it's very hard to photograph). What about the orientation of the diodes? What does the white dot on these diodes mean? I can't seem to find any info on them no matter what I google.

There are Russian-made Ge diodes that are marked the opposite of the usual convention of the dot or stripe at the cathode end. In a clear close-up photo, this can usually be determined. Check out the images in this thread and compare it to your own pedal: viewtopic.php?p=491834#p491834

Here's some pics, though I suspect duhvoodooman has already answered my question. (Thanks!)

Yep, those are marked backwards. That wouldn't matter in a clipping application, but for this signal rectification use, it's critical. Switch 'em around and see where you're at.

Just to confirm -- that was indeed the issue. All set now. Thanks for the help!

Sorry man -- I could have sworn Matt had responded first, but I see I was mistaken!
