So I'm populating the board on a Chancellor.

As I was doing the part inventory at the beginning, I noticed that I was missing the 68nf film cap, but I had an extra 100nf cap. Other than that, all parts accounted for. So I populated the rest of the board.

If I use the 100nf instead of the 68nf, what's that going to do? Looking at the schematic, it's at C12.

Basically, is it worth emailing BYOC and waiting for the proper part? Would the 32nf difference between the two even be within parts tolerances?

32 is a big jump. Be worth emailing unless you can source one close by.

What would be the effect of using the 100nf instead of the 68nf?

It will take a better analyzer of schematics than I am to give you a precise answer on this (maybe Keith/byoc will see this thread and comment), but that cap is clearly part of the tone stack, based upon its position in the schematic (http://www.byocelectronics.com/chancellorscheme.pdf). I believe that cap is part of the RC filter that controls the treble portion of the output signal. I think that using the 100n cap will just shift the range of the control a bit, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't still very usable, since most of us tend to only use the center portion (25% - 75%) of a tone control's sweep anyway. So I'd give it a try and see how it sounds to you. You can always request & install the 68n cap if you're not satisfied.

Yeah, I saw when I looked at the schematic that C12 was in the tone stack and sent something directly to ground, but I wasn't sure what. I've found that I read schematics about as well as I read sheet music: sorta, but not well; enough to get myself in trouble but definitely not well enough to get myself out of it.

I might give it a try with the 100nf. But if someone else has a view, I'd love to hear it.

At any rate, I'm grateful for the input.

Every component in the tonestack works together, but C12 will mostly affect the treble knob...specifically when you turn the treble knob counter clockwise. It sets the roll off frequency for the treble cut. So with the treble knob at noon or higher, you probably won't notice much of a difference with a 100nF. When you cut treble, you'll be cutting a slightly wider range of the frequency spectrum. But only at 6dB per octave, so it's not going to be a massive difference.

That being said, i apologize for the part mix up. You can use the 100nF for now. If you contact sales@buildyourownclone.com we'll send you the correct part, and you can swap it out later.
