Hi, I ordered a couple BYOC products recently (Green Pony and Echo Royal). I don't see this anywhere in the listings or instructions; what material are the included enclosures? I assumed they were aluminum but have had some trouble with attempted finishings (etching/electroplating). I also assume failures are on me here but just looking for information to track down my problems. Thank you!

Yes, aluminum. Are you rubbing out the surface with Scotch-Brite or other fine abrasive and then wiping it down with an organic solvent (acetone, mineral spirits, etc.) to insure a clean surface free of oxidation, grease & oils?

I sanded to a fine grit (1500) and used "Bartender's Friend" as a degreaser since it was listed as a degreaser and had it at home. I will try acetone for the next round of trials. I am entirely new to working with aluminum so assumed there would be a learning curve! But checking assumptions seemed smart too.

Thank you!

OK, that sounds like you have the prep well covered. Trying an acetone wipe-down can't hurt, though.

I've never tried etching the enclosures, but we have a number of builders that have posted here with good results & photos to prove it. Do a search in the Show Off Your Completed Build sub-forum.

Nice example: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=55192
