I sanded to a fine grit (1500) and used "Bartender's Friend" as a degreaser since it was listed as a degreaser and had it at home. I will try acetone for the next round of trials. I am entirely new to working with aluminum so assumed there would be a learning curve! But checking assumptions seemed smart too.
