Pretty sure that Keith has been working on one on and off for awhile. IIRC, there are some substantial challenges to be overcome to produce a kit that meets his expectations. Maybe he'll stop by and comment.

This would be cool for sure. I think these work with an internal lamp surrounded by an array of light dependent resistors. I imagine that would be a pretty finicky setup for most DIYers, especially beginners. That said, I'd be excited to build one if BYOC made one!

You may want to look into the leaked schem (via service manual) of the Korg nuvibe, really cool solution used to get the sound without LDRs :)
