Hello BYOC
I was wondering if you happened to have, or have on the way, a clone of the old Peavey Hotfoot Distortion HFD-2? If not I'd like to suggest it as a pedal option. It's supposedly similar to the RAT but it definitely has its own characteristics which is why I love it.
I've been using an old one (not sure its date) for the longest time now and it's become a key part of my pedal rig, the problem is that it's becoming unreliable. The on/off switch is getting pretty bad and pedal doesn't always come on when you stomp on it. I've tried to find a replacement stomp switch for it to no avail. The old plastic 8 pin switch is soldered directly to the mother board and seems pretty cheap (maybe it's good but mine has taken a beating over the years). Plus a standard true bypass switch is too big to fit into the box. I'm willing to put it all into a new casing if I can somehow replace the on/off switch with a proper, ideally, true bypass switch. Also it seems to pick up a lot more RF interference lately, sometimes when you stomp on it the pedal picks up local radio stations very well, if I tap/kick the side of the pedal the radio noise goes away.
If you have any suggestions that'd be great, if you think you might look into building a clone that would be awesome, if not that's fine too.
I also found a Schematic for the hotfoot here:
