Hi everyone,

I'd just like to say that the Tweed Royal is one awesome amp. I've built a JTM45 and 18watt before (not byoc) and I think the tweed royal is all I'll ever need now. Its just got such a beautiful warm tone. I changed all the tubes to genelex gold lion which made a big difference over the JJs but even with the JJs it was still great, just different.

Only possible thing I wish it had was switching from 6watt to 30watt instead of 12. There isn't a huge difference from 6 to 12 apart from tightening up the bottom end and I sometimes wish it had a bit more headroom. It can handle so many genres though and sounds great with the BYOC reverb in front of it. The cut control is awesome, I kind of use it as a third volume knob to cut through a bit more with a loud drummer.

I get a lot of positive comments on the tone from fellow guitarists and people checking it out to see what the hell it is. I mainly use a tele through it as its definitely on the darker side but its glorious.

Overall a great sounding amp and pretty versatile. Love it!

Right on!

6 to 30 watt just simply isn't possible. I suppose you could change the OTs, uses 6L6, and do some sort of mesa boogie type of quasi-power scaling, but not changing the wattage by simply changing from a single end/single tube to push-pull/ dual tube. You could do a 15 to 30watt.

I supposed if you added 4 x 6V6s and a 30+watt PushPull OT, and figured out how to switch between the 1 x 6v6 in SE and the 4 x 6v6 in PP you could do that. You'd definitely need a bigger chassis.

I had actually thought about something like that but at the end of the day I'm probably just better off leaving the tweed royal for smaller gigs and building a bassman or jtm45 for bigger stuff. Wouldn't be exactly the same but a similar kind of tone I think with good grind.
