I had a brush with death in 2004 from alcohol and drug abuse. Serious enough to change my life. 2024 and I'm 20 years sober. When I quit drinking I had all this money burning a hole in my pocket. I Started buying Gibsons and Marshalls. One day I decided to mod my 1981 Cry Baby. Loved it. Soon after that I found BOYC. Joined this forum in 2006 and started building pedals. At the time I never heard anything like it! Shortly after that my pedal board was massive... All BYOC, (pretty much still to this day). I graduated from kits to just the PCB board and sourced my own parts. I tried a few different board vendors like Madbean (Another great site).

Close to 20 years later and decades of looking at schematics, one day I was able to follow the signal flow. I stared to breadboard effects from schematics. I sat down and you-tubed analog circuit design. I learned Kicad. I studied buffer circuits, gain stages. tone controls, transistor and opamp amplifier circuits, BBD design and so on. On the breadboard you can easily replace a component and hear the effects or see it on a scope. Thanks to the BYOC community for getting me hooked. With the use of Kicad, I now design my own circuits and effects based on these classic designs and getting my own PCBs manufactured.

Keep at it!
oh yea... all the software tools I use are free and open source.

Congrats on your sobriety and on all the cool shit you've made! BYOC put me on a journey too, but I haven't gone nearly as far as you have.

Thanks Keith. I have nothing but great things to say about BYOC. Congrats on bringing amazing tone to the community for the past 20 years.
