I built this a couple years ago, included the "vintage parts" option with the 2SC1849 transistors and metal can 3080A IC. Other than that, I used Switchcraft jacks (always do) and a heavier-duty 3PDT foot switch.
I really didn't have much experience with comp pedals, didn't understand the circuitry, and really didn't even look at the schematic, just followed the instructions. It worked. It sounded okay, better than some I've tried. But to me it was a little dull sounding. I didn't plug into it much. I knew it was a Ross clone, supposedly very similar to a Dynacomp. The "vintage parts" option should have put me a little more in the Dynacomp camp, right? Not quite.
Well, recently I started reading up more on these circuits, and comparing the Ross and Dyna schematics. After a few steps, I now have it converted to a Dynacomp clone, and I couldn't be happier with the results! Much more lively and dynamic sounding. Brighter, clearer, but not harsh. Maybe others would like to try this out. Here's what I did:
-Put a 100k resistor in parallel with the Level pot, for correct 50k value. -Replaced C2 and C13 (input/output caps) with same value ceramic discs -Removed C1, C3, C4 and C6 -Replaced R1 (pulldown) with 4.7M -Replaced R6 with a straight wire
Pretty cool, very easy!
EDIT: Seems I may have posted this in the wrong section. Mods feel free to move it if it matters.
