I built the shredder a while back and i would like for it to not be as bassy. It almost sounds like the tone is rolled back on my guitar. I have the treble almost all the way up and bass almost all the way down. Same for both my LP with hot pickups and my SG with vintage ones.

Is this a capacitor value change? I'll check the values when i get home later to make sure i didn't fudge something. Looking at the schematic, C1 is the master, and C8 & 9 look to control the bass and treble pots.

Also i wouldn't mind a bit more grit to the distortion if that's do-able with this circuit. Any ideas? Thanks!

Probably a good idea for you to post pics of the build so that we can check to see if there's an anomaly that might explain the bassiness.

should be able to adjust that by changing out a few capacitors. but as DVM said, best to first check that you don't have the wrong thing installed somewhere...

You could make C2 smaller. But if you want to get rid of bass, it's probably because you made some mistake that's cutting treble.

As far as i can tell the capacitors are correct. I'll include my little checklist.ImageImageImageImageImage

I don't see anything out of place. Below is a list of things you can do to make the bass less pronounced and the treble more pronounced. You'll notice that I'm using the words cut, reduce, or produce. If it's cutting, it's passive. If it's producing or reducing, it's active. I suppose that's really 6 of one or half a dozen of each though. Anyhow...if you want less bass, I'd start with making C4 smaller.

Making C4 smaller will cut bass.
Making C2 smaller will reduce bass (and consequently, slightly less gain)
Making R2 smaller will produce more treble (and consequently, slightly more gain).
Making C10 smaller will cut less treble.

Awesome thanks for the help Keith. I'm making an educated guess that c4 is the .22 down and to the right of the two small diodes?

Also how much of a value change would be necessary to notice. 0.1uf?

0.1uf is a good place to start. Then drop down to 0.047 if it's still too bassy.

If you have some single inline (SIL) sockets, you might want to install two of them in the C4 eyelets so that you can try a couple of cap values without having to de-solder/re-solder.

So i don't think it's the pedal. I was using it into my champlifier, so i tried it into my rockerverb and it sounds much better. Same battery used into both amps. I also tried it with my isolated psu. Not sure why that is, the champ takes my other pedals really well. Including my belle epoch delay which has a mild boost.

Just as a follow up, i replaced the coupling capacitors from .22mfd to .1mfd. Made a drastic difference, but i think i'm gonna go down another value still. My guess is since they designed the amp for an 8" speaker, they had to compensate for lack of bass. Since i built the amp into a larger cabinet with a 12" hard rock speaker there is no bass to compensate for.

That's funny because I'm running my champ head into a 15" Jensen C15N open back and I love it. I'm also using the 15w version with 6L6, which might make a difference.

Installed a bright cap on the champlifier and it fixed the issues i was having. Pedal sounds great. Posted the details in the champlifier mods sticky.
