I recently acquired the CJ Pre-Gain module, which I didn't have previously, and started fooling around with it in front of some of my overdrive pedals as a gain boost. I quickly found that it added too much low end for my tastes, so I consulted with Keith on how best to address that. He suggested reducing the value of the input cap, C1 (0.47μf/470nf stock value). While what is "best" is going to be highly subjective, I found that .015μf/15nf sounded best to my ear. So if you find the Pre-Gain module too dark/bassy, give this mod a try. I also socketed the C1 position, so I can swap in a different cap value if I change my mind at some point.
