so I was just thumbing through the new mouser catalog and I found a new product that seems like someone could do something pretty cool with.

Illuminated clear shaft pots. you can stick any T1 LED inside the pot and the shaft lights up. It would be neat to have the status light in the knobs. The hard part is finding knobs that will work.

What's the part number?

Some of these plastic knobs at Small Bear might have a nice red glow if lit from inside.

Let me try it by sticking an LED up inside...

Ooooh. The white ones look pretty good, but for the red ones, the entire knob really glows!! The dk blue and black, as you might think don't work at all. These knobs don't have a metal bushing in the shaft hole, so the light is not blocked on the sides.

Of course, the LED-up-the-shaft-hole tends to throw as much light from the sides of the lamp as from the top -- that may not be the case with the "illuminated clear shaft" - it might just be bright on the top.

sorry. Don't have my catalog handy. If you've got the new one, you can't miss them...in the alpha pots section.

Lemme do a search on mouser real quick. go to page 535 of the online mouser catalog or type "clear shaft potentiometer" in the search. I just noticed that these are available only in PC mount, so they may not be that useful.

Hey Keith -- on the same page are the illuminated slide pots - perfect, maybe, for the BYOC EQ pedal :)

So, I got some "sample" sliders in yesterday, including the illuminated slider. I've been through this before when I first thought about the byoc EQ, but there wasn't much of a selection at that time.

The illuminated slider is just too big. Which is a shame because it's really cool. However, I did get some mini sliders in that are perfect. I got so excited about them, that I stayed up all night and designed a semi-original circuit and PCB for a 10 band EQ with input and output levels. AND it will fit in a 125b box just like most of the BYOC pcbs.
