Found this over at Bean's. I'm cut and pasting from Midwayfair
-----
From Pyr0 on DIY:

"New discount code

15% Discount Coupon Code : 666999
Valid till 24 September 2012 ( 1pm New York time )
*Please use this one wisely because there might not be a new discount coupon for a month after this one.

Dang, and I just placed an order yesterday, oh well."

I'm in the same boat as him, just placed a small order yesterday. But maybe someone else can make use of this!

BTW, check their new releases ... they've got 1N270s in a DO-7 package. I'm getting a few to test and compare. They've also recently got the 13700 chip (even smallbear doesn't carry this), though their price is about the same as Mouser on that.

I know I'll be taking advantage of it. It won't be a big order, but I figure it'll probably cover shipping.

What is the 1N270 used in?

I want to say Madbean's Patsyface (tonebender) and I also want to say it is one of the choices in a Klon if one so chooses.

I think I may rock a Tayda order in addition to my Mouser as you are right it will cover shipping at least and I can always use some stuff I don't need :?

Sweet! Now I just need to remember to put together an inventory for the various PCBs I have to find out what bits and pieces I need to complete them.

-Madbean Afterlife (John Hollis Flatline) compressor has four of them in a rectifier network.
-I've used them in Orange Squeezers -- second best choice compared to a 1N100, IMO. The forward voltage is almost identical, but the 1N270 tends to result in a very slight brightness increase. It's not in the audio path, so I can't fathom why.
-As a clipper in any circuit requiring a germanium diode [or a clipping diode in general], it's exceptional. It was my favorite until I found the OA1160, and the OA1160 is sonically very, very similar (just slightly higher Fv).

Additionally, the low forward voltage (~.25 in comparison with the .35 average of the 1N34A) may be desirable in other places, like as a stabilizer across a germanium transistor or even as reverse polarity protection in the +9v -> diode series method (though that's a expensive way to go about it).

I will add, however, that any time you aren't using it as a clipping diode (and therefore have no considerations about the sound of it), the 1N60P that Tayda sells (for a fraction of the price) is of appropriate Fv and is smaller and more consistent. I wouldn't use the 1N60P as a clipper because they tend to sound very dark, but they make great rectifier networks because they're so easy to match.

Yes we have been waiting for Sandy to blow over!!, On Tayda Facebook they said that it wouldnt be fair to the people who had no hydro or internet to post the coupon on Halloween when they had planned, and that as soon as Sandy blows over and they get hydro back they will post the coupon.

If you just subscribe to their facebook wall RSS feed, you will see that there is a new code which has been there for 3 days, and expires this evening at 6 EST:

RSS Feed:
http://www.facebook.com/feeds/page.php? ... rmat=rss20

Facebook Page:
http://www.facebook.com/TaydaElectronics

I just put the RSS Feed on my iGoogle home page, and see it every time.

FYI, while I am here, I should mention that GuitarPCB is running a killer sale right now, buy 1 get 1 free on their new R2G2 and Zenith Overdrive boards. http://www.facebook.com/GuitarPCB

I'm about to put in my first large parts order. Is there anything you would not order from Tayda due to price or quality of part?

BTW- I think Chris meant to write 15%

Dang, all I have really been thinking about ordering from Tayda are a crap-ton of LEDs.

I haven't had any problems w/their stuff, but won't get any more of the black open jacks. They're not "bad", but they certainly aren't good either. Well worth (to me) the slightly extra cost to spring for Neutriks, which will hold up to gnashed-teeth torque.

I love Tayda for passives etc, but I wont buy hardware related stuff there. I have had very bad luck with DC jacks and 3pDT in particulary where the nuts are not well matched to the thread of the jack or pot and either wont tighten down at all, or just strip out and pop off right away when tightening them down. I just posted about this elsewhere and someone else piped up to say they have had problems with Tayda toggle switches as well but havent had that personally.

Placed my first Tayda order tonight. Mostly passive components and semiconductors for a three delays and a reverb. I have heard the hardware isn't of great quality so I only ordered a couple of switches, enclosures and bezels to test the waters so to speak.

Pretty cheap shipping at just under $10 and saved $12 with the discount code so that's a win to me. I'll have to wait and see how the product is...

Did you order some PT2399's?

A few folks have complained about the quality but most are fine. I've not had a bad one yet from them.

Just an fyi should a build not fire. Check that chip early in the troubleshooting.

I bought 10 of them as they were cheap. I had heard of the "issues" some people have with them so I also bought another 10 from Smallbear. I will A/B them and see what I can find.

I've never had a problem with any parts from them (that includes a billion jacks, switches and PT2399s in every order).

As a Canuck I find it hard to find a place that has the parts I need and also offers decent shipping rates up here, so I'll keep going to back to them!
