The purpose of this thread is to gauge interest and generate preliminary numbers for this year's switch and jack group buy. Pots will NOT be a part of this deal. I do not have the time or the space to handle that much work right now, but we all need switches and jacks.

As Isaac indicated in sjaustin's earlier thread, he and I have exchanged emails regarding Mammoth being the vendor, and he has provided benchmark pricing as follows:

Hey Chris,

Good to hear from you! Yes, we would love to do the group buy with you guys. It looks like it will mainly be stomp switches and jacks. I know we have plenty of stomp switches so supply is not a problem.

The 500 piece and above pricing I can give you on the Pro stomp switch is $2.47 each.

The Premier is $2.33 each for 500.

The standard 3PDT is $1.58 for 500 pieces.

I will also give you the 500 piece pricing for any combination like 100 pros, 200 premiers, and 200 standards.

The 500 piece pricing on the switch crafts jacks is $1.33each for the monos and $1.36 each for the stereos.

If you go over 1000 on switches or jacks, I can get you an additional price break as well. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!

What I am looking for right now is information so I can see what quantities we can make. I will get harder numbers together as we get closer to pulling the trigger, but I do know that I will be collecting a $2.50 labor fee, actual Paypal fees and Priority shipping.

This is the thread to ask questions. The signup thread will actually be a Google Doc.

I would like to be ready to place an order by the first week of March, and I plan on having ALL of the packages shipped within a week of the product being delivered to me. Removing the pots from the equation will greatly speed up my sorting and packaging labor.

I'd do 25 standard FS, 25 stereo, and 25 mono jacks.

Keep it coming, Fellas.

There is a reason I have not created an official signup sheet (other than my actual day job, LOL), but the sooner we get large numbers here, the sooner we move to the real sign up and can start talking about firm dates for money, ordering and projected shipping dates.

I'm looking at probably 50,50,50. I will for sure be going with foot switches if this goes through. I will do the jacks here as well to help the group buy. The knock-off jacks at SB get under a $1 at 50 qty fyi. I am against nuetrik jacks, and the company as a whole because they were unwilling to help me out on $180 worth of defective plugs.

I'd be in for 50 pro.

I'm with Riff here, I don't have a problem with Neutric, and they can be had at BLMS for .73ea.
Maybe Switchcraft are better, but I can't see them being that much better, sorry.

What you save on stomps you spend on jacks and then with Chris' cut, it works out to be about the same overall. So you don't stand to lose anything and you help out the community I suppose.

Kinda depends on what BLMS charges for shipping Down Under.

But I am not trying to force anyone to do anything.

Like I said in the OP, I am not sure the margins exist the way they used to.

But certainly, for some, Group Buys make sense. But not all the time for everyone.

Hence this thread.

ALSO - I expected the Switchcraft vs Neutrik debate to arise, and it has.

Let's see how many guys want how much of what and then we can decide which way to go as a group.

My "cut" is only to justify the time I could be building pedals for $20.00+/hr instead of licking envelopes for peanuts. Filling in three cells on a spreadsheet and sending me some $$ and an address (most of which I will already have) ain't a bad way to get parts, IMHO.

Well yeah, I totally understand, that's why I threw out the comparison. It's about the same plus we get to feel good about being part of something bigger. And as you said things have changed since the first group but and margins aren't what they used to be.

I don't feel forced Chris, and I greatly appreciate your effort, sorry if that hasn't come across.
FWIW, I second Dave's suggestion you get $2.50 for every $50 spent.

BLMS usually sends me stuff in prepaid boxes which are about $15 IIRC.
I'd be looking for 100mono.
That's $73 from BLMS plus shipping or $136 for the Switchcraft, again, plus shipping.
Assuming it's about $30 (two boxes), it's roughly $100 vs $160.
As much as I support the GB, I just can't justify the extra expense this time.
Did Mammoth quote a price for Neutric?

Even if I'm only in for switches, that mean's I'm helping the community, right?

As far as they Switchcraft vs Neutrik debate, I am not saying that the Neutriks are unreliable, I am saying I don't like them. I don't like way they were designed and I prefer to spend more on what I consider to be nicer jacks.

But it's totally a different strokes for different folks type of situation. I have my preference, but if Neutrik make more sense for a group buy, then that's cool.

Since mammoth is offering 500 pc pricing for a combination of footswitches, maybe they would do the same for jacks. Assuming, of course, that it didn't make Chris's life too difficult (which it might).

I'm going to be looking at 10 standard switches and 20 mono jacks. It's a little pricier for me to join the group than to order directly at BLMS, but I'm in if it helps us get pricing. I did suggest the idea, after all.

I'll wait to see what happens with the Jacks, i'm in the same boat than Dave about that, i'll shout my numbers a bit later, checking some stuff on my side... with the quantity i'm usually in with these GB and the new USPS shipping politics it might kill the deal right off the bat for me.

I'm in......

but only for switchcrafts...

hate to be a party pooper.....but the Neut'ies blow.....I have to sand every one to get chrome off so solder will stick....the Switchrafts *never* have that problem...plus the Switchcrafts have a better feel.

I may (only) get some switches if there's no option for Switchcraft jacks....otherwise - I'm in for 20 (green) switches and 40 jacks...

Dan

Ok, I respect my elders, ... and given that I've limited experience with Switchcraft, I'm prepared to be schooled.
Three of the best builders I know recommend them, and I'm getting them at a good price-break, how can I complain?
I don't want Chris to suffer anymore excessive sorting pain either.

...I'm a bit worried this will be like my first taste of single malt whiskey- nothing else is worth drinking any more.

My plan was to do Mix and Match switches (per Isaac's suggestion) and Switchcraft jacks unless the herd makes it not work.

If Mammoth can mix and match Neutriks and SwitchCrafts, I think we are fine.

^^This

I know that it makes more parts to split and what not, but i think it would greatly help to get people into the groupbuy and get the desired numbers.

Chris, i'll give Mammoth a shout about that too..., i want this to work out. I can't do much but i can do that.

Edit:

Just looked at my numbers and i'm in for 100 ProTeal FS. If it works out for jacks i'll take 200 mono.

Isaac's reply to my email about mixing jacks.........................

Hey Chris,
Normally we wouldn’t do that but I will go ahead and do it for the BYOC group buy. We can mix and match Nuetrik and switchcraft as long as the total goes to 500 pieces. The 500 piece price for the mono Neutrik is $.83 each and for the stereo it is $.90 each. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Feel free to invite peeps from Bean's Forum and GPCB.

I could probably start the sign up, but I would like to see just a little more excitement before I do. I consider the signup sheet the Point of No Return.
