So I found this pickup at a yard sale for $1. It measures 6.45K. Curious as to what it is. Looks like I need a new cover. I had posted before about looking for a gold foil, but this is pretty cool. So, What is it?ImageImageImageImage

That looks so familiar.. I know I've seen pickups like that before, but my google-fu is failing me. I want to say it's from a 60's asian made guitar, but that doesnt really narrow it down. Cool find for a buck!!

Yup, my google fu is dead too. The coil is a bit longer and wider than a Strat (the coil alone won't fit in a Strat cover). The sawtooth strip is part of the baseplate and the only thing holding the coil to the baseplate is the magnet (magnetically) and a single ground wire. It is a bit tall as a surface mount (that is to say, I couldn't mount it on a tele, the strings aren't tall enough) but I could mount it on a Semi-Hollow or possibly an LP. It appears to be as tall as a Dog-Ear P90. Fortunately for me, the Tele I am building has a wraparound bridge and is making it necessary to either angle the neck or raise the neck a few mm which should give me the clearance for this pickup. I'm not sure how I am going to mount it as I want to avoid routing specifically for it, in case I don't like it and need to put a standard pickup in there. I may end up modifying the current cover (trim the broken tabs off and drill new mounting holes). But the top of the cover is a mess. I may cut that out too and find a super thin piece of metal to use as a cover and keep the sides of the current cover.
Any other suggestions about this thing and where I may find a cover that fits? A P90 cover is too large and a hum bucker is too small. Ugh. Maybe it is time I made my own...

Not a clue, though it looks evil with those serrated shark teeth  If nothing else it'd be great for a cigar box guitar or a partscaster or something!

Sorry, made sense in my head... What I meant was, if it doesn't work out with the height and the neck angle on that build, it'd be great for a CBG etc.
