I'm building the old analog vibrato (BA6110 version) from just the PCB, no kit. There are a few things I want to make sure I source correctly. Any help appreciated, especially links to vendor pages.

PCB mount stereo jacks. These seem like they have to be just the right ones, six pins on each jack, but I can't seem to find anything like that at Small Bear. I think it's this one, out of stock at the BYOC shop.

BC550 transistors (4). Will this BC550B be equivalent?

0.47uf electrolytic. Seriously?

TL022 op amp. Says you can sub the very common 4588, but if there's a benefit to the TL022 and I can source one, I'd like to use it.

Thanks in advance!

It only uses a TL022 for the LFO because audio fidelity is not important there and it has a lower current draw that most other op amps. You really can use any sort of dual op amp there without any side effects (except for slightly higher current draw which would only have the slightest effect on draining a battery a little more quickly). I wouldn't worry about putting in what ever you have on hand there.

These jacks should work fine: http://www.smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/1-4-in-stereo-nys215-u/

These are just used as unity gain buffers and the BC550B will be fine.

Morgan, you're the best. Thanks.

(I saw those jacks but didn't think they had the panel mount pins. Now that I look more closely, they do look right.)

Those jacks are one of the reasons I redesigned the new version. They are expensive and they also isolate the enclosure from ground, so you need to make a separate connection to one of the pots or footswitches to ground the enclosure. You want the neutrik PC mount jacks. NMJ6HFD2 is the part# for that.

The transistors are another reason for the redesign. All of the NPN transistors can be replaced by 2N3904 or 2N5088 and all the PNP can be replaced by 2N3906 or 2N5087 or any similar transistor. Just keep in mind that the BC550 has a BCE pinout.

The 0.47uF electrolytic can be replaced with a 1uF. It won't make a noticeable difference. Or you could probably find a .47uF film cheaper than a tantalum. Or you could put two 1uF in parallel.

Also, the 6.8uF cap can be substituted for a 10uF (that's what we're doing in the new version). It provides a longer rise time, but doesn't affect the shortest time. So I'd recommend using a 10uF for that reason and it's also a lot easier and cheaper to find a 10uF electrolytic than a 6.8 tantalum.

Thanks for the response, Keith.

FWIW, in addition to being helpful info, it's fun for me to hear the thought process behind redesigns and similar stuff. Part of what keeps me coming back!
