Since it's hot af in Arkansas, I decided to finally put together the Large Beaver kit my friend bought me years ago. I'm pretty sure (!) that this is the Version 2 kit. I surveyed the parts and compared to the list and it seems that my kit is missing the LED, the LED bezel, and the AC jack. I find the LEDs on the BYOC page, but no bezel or AC jacks. I would like to source these parts. Also, can someone lend me their eyes so I can tell these resistors apart?? Who knew I'd need quad-focals?

Could you post a photo of the PCB please, so that we can identify which version of the LB that you have?

Try the forum's file attachment function, found down below the text entry box for posting. Click on "Choose File, navigate to the image on your computer and select it, then click "Add the file". It will then appear at the bottom of your post.

Ok, if this doesn't work, then there's probably no hope for me building this pedal.

It worked. Yep, that's the old rev.2.0 Large Beaver. To my knowledge, the kit never came with an LED bezel, but you definitely need a 5mm LED for engaged/bypassed visual differentiation, and a DC jack (one of THESE). If you contact sales@buildyourownclone.com and explain that your kit (though old!) didn't contain these parts, I'm sure they will send them to you at no cost.

Do you have the correct instructions for the kit? I can provide a copy if you PM me with an email address.

Re: identifying the resistors, I'd strongly suggest that you use a multimeter to measure them individually rather than relying on your eyes to read the color bands. That's risky even for very experienced builders.

I sent an email to the company earlier today, but I'm sure that they will want the version info you provided. The "Batch#" was on the turquoise label stapled on the bag that enclosed the whole kit.

I believe I have the correct instructions...V2 off the website. I appreciate the link and your suggestion about the resistors. I am using some high powered magnifying glasses to even see the color bands. I printed out the parts page and am taping each to its correct description. However, I will verify before installing. Thanks for your help!!!

I don't think that kit needs an LED bezel. If the LED hole in the enclosure is only 5mm in diameter, then it's intended to be "bezel-free".

Next question... I'm getting things put together. Resistors are in. Shop is sending the missing parts. With regard to the transistors (Ram's Head BC239C). one place says solder directly to the board, the other says DO NOT solder the transistors!!! So, which is it? TIA

IIRC, when the LB rev.2 first came out, the kit came with compression sockets for the four transistors, so you soldered in the sockets and then just pushed the tranny legs into the sockets. When the rev.2a version was issued in June '08, it no longer came with sockets and you just soldered the trannies directly to the PCB. So if you got one of the earlier kits and received the sockets with it, you can certainly use them if you wish. Personally, I'd just solder the trannies to the board. That's how I built several of them and never had a problem.
