I built the 2 knob compressor this last year and it has a loud "pop" when switching on and off. Is this normal? is there a way to wire the switch to get a more quiet activation?

You may want to check your ground connections.

Make sure your jacks are tight to the enclosure.

If you still have the pop you could add a pull down resistor. A quick search here or on google will tell you how to add one.
