Bad ICs aren't common, but overheating them is. If you can, use sockets instead of soldering them directly to the board.

While sockets are a great solution in many instances, I don't believe there's enough room in the Mimosa Jr. to allow use of a socket and still be able to mount the rear cover plate. I'm quite sure BYOC would have included one if there was, since they are standard for IC mounts in the full-size kits.

I'll see if I can pick up a socket that fits this IC. Interesting that this kit doesn't come with one! I was looking at other kits I wanted to do and they all came with sockets. Saves me from buying a big pack of them right now, I guess.

Please read my post that precedes yours. Of course, you're welcome to try this, but I don't think it will fit.

Mouser has low profile sockets like these that might fit…

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Mil ... 2fkIiM8%3d

According to the data sheet they rise .095” above the deck.

Somehow i missed the post, and yes, clearance does seem like it will be an issue. I'll mess with it and see what works, though!

I'm proud to announce that the pedal is finally working. Got the new IC in and that was definitely it.

Thank you all so much, you made this possible for me (a guy who knows nothing). If I can do it (with all of your help), really, anybody can.

Summary for future people with similar problem:

1) Check your soldering
2) Check your components (DISCONNECT FROM BOARD IF NOT TESTING PROPERLY IN CIRCUIT)
3) If you're still getting wrong values at your pins, take out your IC (easiest to destroy the plastic and take it out one pin at a time) and test the empty pin sockets. If the values are right, it was your IC. Try again. No, a socket won't fit in this particular unit

Again, seriously, to everybody that pitched in on this, I'm so thankful.
