There is significant voltage drop over R2 (there should be little to none) and the pedal draws about 80 mA which is ridiculous. The IC gets pretty warm.

I built it for a friend so I'm not sure how it got fried. Doesn't matter.

Changing out the TL074 should be fun, but does anyone think it may have taken other components with it with that total current draw?

Oh, I should mention that there was an intermittant enclosure ground due to a too-long lead between R10 and R11 that I fixed. I don't think that was related. 1/2 voltage is still 1/2 the battery voltage.

Yeah, 80mA is a teensy bit high--nominal is 5.5mA!

I'd change the TL074 and then see where you're at. If it's getting warm, that would certainly seem to be the issue.

As far as removing it goes, I'd just clip all the legs, remove them individually, and clean up the eyelets with a solder sucker.

Successfully replaced the op amp chip.

That was not it. :(

It was a microscopic solder bridge from the ground pin to the pin under it. :) Continuity tests FTW.

Fixed.

Good job of finding & fixing it! Those tiny, hairs-breadth solder bridges can be a real b*tch!
