I just built the 5-knob compressor. Everything seems to work great, except the bypass footswitch makes a loud pop when switched. (It's louder at 18v than 9v, which makes sense.)

I m not very experienced with this stuff; mostly just doing my best to follow directions.

Does anyone see anything obvious, or know where I might start debugging? I assume there is a problem with existing construction, rather than needing to add an extra pull-down resistor?

Pop on a true bypass compressor is unavoidable. When it's sitting there idle, without any signal, the OTA is at maximum amplification. The second any signal comes in, it's going to be massively amplified. The attack just isn't fast enough on the envelope trigger to deal with it. The good news is that most people aren't turning their compressors on and off in the middle of a song, so while the pop may be annoying, it's really not an issue.

Sometimes just stomping on the switch a few times rapidly can cause some of the pop to go away. BTW, the pedal should be totally disconnected when you do this to avoid speaker damage.

Thanks so much for your replies, Keith and coolhand!

Makes sense that there would be some buildup with a compressor. And I will try the multiple stomps thing to see if it helps
