Hi all,

I put together the 5 knob compressor and am getting a distorted sound as I turn RATIO up. Would be very grateful for some help.

Symptoms:
Pedal bypass works
When switched on the light is engaged
When RATIO knob is turned down, sounds fine. As ratio is turned up it becomes distorted (particularly acute when tone is CCW) with some loss of volume relative to RATIO knob CCW
Tone and level knobs work, hard to tell if sustain works given distortion

I’ve tried the below:
Re-flow all the connections (I’m new to this so my soldering is crap). Nothing is loose.
Double check resistors (also checked with multimeter)
Double checked orientation of diodes and transistors
Play with trimpot (best setting still distorted)
Check pots aren’t shorting against the PCB
Pedal switch / foot connection seems fine

I’ve taken a few readings with a multimeter (referencing an earlier post). I’m using 9V battery. I get the following:

Junction of R2, R3: 4.4V (OK I understand)
Junction of R4, R5: 2.75V (OK I understand)
Q2: Collector 1.25V, base 1.85V, emitter cycling between 1.5 – 3.5 (couldn’t get a single reading) (Q2 readings not normal I understand)

A couple of images attached.

Would be very grateful for some assistance. As I’m very new would appreciate an “electronics for dummies” level help.
Many thanks

Based upon all the measures you've already taken and the fact that I can't see anything obviously wrong visually, I would recommend that you contact BYOC and request a replacement BA6110 IC. Tell them you were directed to make this request by a forum moderator, and they won't charge you anything.
