Hi,

I build a BYOC 5-knob compressor kit I purchased few years ago. Pedal seems to work okay, except for the actual compression effect  .

1. Works on bypass.
2. LED comes on when pedal is activated.
3. When pedal is activated, dry signal comes through (ratio CCW) but signal is completely dead when ratio is fully CW -> no wet signal at all.
4. Level control works on the dry signal when pedal is on.
5. I have checked the IC mounting - it is solid.
6. I have checked my components placing and solder joints. Solder joints are not perfect but not that bad either.

Any suggestions?

/Simo

What happens when you adjust the trim pot as detailed in the instructions?

Nothing at all. Makes sense if the trimmer is supposed to affect the compressed signal and there is none.

Everything appears to be correctly placed and your soldering quality looks very good. I would be concerned about the BA6110 IC, as that would be the component most prone to failure. Do you have a signal tester? If not, it's a very simple device that you could easily make yourself from the instructions here: http://byocelectronics.com/signaltesterinstructions.pdf I would recommend testing for signal at pins 1, 4, 6, 7 & 8.

Thanks.

I made the sound probe and tested the BA6110 pins you suggested:

1: Clean guitar signal
4: No signal
6: Slightly lower guitar signal, tone pot affects the sound
7: Same as 6
8: No signal

Probably gonna need a new 6110. It would appear that the chip’s output buffer is bad.

Yup. Unfortunately, the DOA rate on these NOS IC's seems to run pretty high, at least compared to current production chips. Contact sales@buildyourownclone.com and request a free replacement, referencing this forum thread.
