Build Your Own Clone Message Board

Hi all,
I built the BYOC 5 knob compressor, first on breadboard, and then on the BYOC PCB. Everything is working fine and sounding quite good, but strangely it is more noisy (hiss and some radio) since I built it into a grounded aluminium enclosure. There is also a weird effect, where the noise AND the level of the signal change when I put my hand near or on the back of the enclosure - what is that all about?

As I am also building a proximity controlled tremolo as a separate project, a friend joked that I had "probably mixed up the circuits" (I have checked, I haven't) just so you get an idea of the effect I am getting...

Would be thankful for any wisdom on this, let me know if pictures are needed.

PS I replaced some of the 1uF tantalums with electrolytics...surely that cant be the reason?

Grounding issue?

Does this happen with any of your other gear?

I haven't taken the box to the studio yet, the testing setup is:

passive guitar or battery powered sine wave gen
->
BYOC comp (battery powered)
->
vox ac1 mini amp (also battery powered)

none of my other DIY effects display this behaviour, and just to make things even weirder, today with the sinewave gen the signal is getting quieter (rather than louder, yesterday with the guitar) with closer proximity. I made a little video of this effect:
