A few people have noted that the 1uf caps currently supplied in the kit do not fit underneath the circuit board as noted in the instructions (these are the 3 caps that are mounted on the solder side of the board only). I'm not sure how many kits went out with the larger caps, but it is a temporary deal. Please anticipate the need to modify the layout of those 3 caps. Here's a good explanation below:

Populating the circuit board:
Step 1. the 1uf caps need to be mounted on their side and not vertical in order to clear the pots listed in Step 1. of "Mounting the circuit board" this isn't made clear and is pretty important since they are nearly impossible to get to after the dip16 sockets are mounted.

I improvised by lengthening the terminals of each leg of the pot with clipped off resistor wires. there should be no need to do this if the capacitors are mounted horizontal. also the two 1K and the 10k resistors would need to be mounted first since the cap will cover up the solder points on the bottom of the board.

Step 10: a reminder to omit the .01 uf cap and highlight it in red. a lot of time can pass between step one and ten and it's easy to think you are missing a cap.

otherwise everything else went smoothly.

8/17/2010 Update:

Guys, please be aware that capacitor sizes continue to change. Page 4 of the instructions, step one, details how to install the three 1µf electrolytic capacitors on the underside of the pcb and includes the following sentence:
Quote:
If your kit came with the small black aluminum electrolytic caps, just add them to the underside of the PCB normally. If your kit came with the larger aluminum electrolytic caps, you will need to bend them down so that they lay flat against the PCB.

IGNORE THE COLORS DESCRIBED HERE! THE KIT MAY COME WITH LARGE BLACK CAPACITORS THAT WILL NOT FIT STANDING ON END!

The best thing to do while adding the 3 caps to the underside of the pcb is to check that they will fit underneath the pots before soldering anything. Install one of the caps into it's place, and then see if the pot (ping, pong, or repeats, depending on which cap you install) will fit over the cap when it's standing up. If not, bend the cap over and try again. That way, you won't have any problems installing the pots over the caps in the long run.

Thanks! :D
