Hi All. First time posting and thanks to BYOC for making killer pedal kits. I have put together a Reverb 2 pedal and from Day 1 in testing it, there has been an issue with the output volume being (much) lower than the amp bypass volume. All pots have been turned up to maximum, but even though it has ample reverb, I feel the reverb is still not as much as it could be also. I attribute this to be linked to volume issue though possibly but not sure. Can anyone let me know what voltage readings are necessary across components to try and solve this issue? I have replaced the Belkin BTDR-2H module, the two TL072CPs and the 78L05 5 volt regulator. Any direction and help would be greatly appreciated. I will send pics when I know what to send through. Thanks heaps BYOC forum page.

I'm not the expert here, but the below describes the information that will help the experts guide you.

1. Pic of the top side of your PCB.

2. Pic of the underside of your PCB.

3. Pic that clearly shows your footswitch/jack wiring and the wires going to the PCB

4. A pic that clearly shows your wiring going from the PCB to the pots and any other switches

5. Is bypass working?

6. Does the LED come on?

7. If you answer yes to 5 and 6, what does the pedal do when it is "on"?

+1 to what paulman described above. Also, what type of power supply are you using?

Thanks for the help. The pedal works as it should except for the low output (as far as I know). So LED is on, bypass is fine and pots do what they are labelled to do. I haven't boxed it up yet because it wasn't working to the standard I thought was acceptable. Also I have tested the current draw and it reads that it has a 59.1 MA draw which by the specs is way too high. I am guessing that this is linked to the issue. Also power supply is battery and 9v dc Boss pedal supply. Pics on the way.

A pic of the pedal. After looking below to see how to add a pic.

It appears to me that R101, the 470k resistor is incorrect. It looks like you have a 470 ohm resistor in there. You should be able to get a good resistance reading from that resistor in-circuit to check it. Or just lift one end of the resistor to see if the issue goes away - that resistor is the input pulldown and is not required for operation.

If it turns out that the wrong value is in that spot, you can replace that resistor with any value from 470k to 2.2meg or so.

Hi Morgan. Thanks, I will go and check it straight away. I will let you know how it goes. Cheers!

Hi Morgan, there must be other concerns as I measured across the resistor and the reading is pretty much a short circuit. That was from the top side, resistor end to end. I cut it and there was nothing. I replaced it with a 470K resistor and there was no sound at all. I will get some sleep and take a good look at it over the weekend. It seems there is an issue in that area. I have never had two resistor read 000 ohms on their sides when soldered in. Once again I am new to this, so any info would be great. I will post some pics when I have new information.

Hi Morgan
Just checking the schematic and seeing that I have a short across that resistor, could there be an issue with C1, R1 or R2 or in the PCB connections? Seems strange why that reads pretty much 0 ohms across that 470K resistor.

Unlikely. Usually, if the input pulldown resistor (R101) is not the issue, it's going to be because the output pulldown resistor (R15) is shorted, or there is an issue with your wiring or footswitch. A photo fo the footswitch wiring might help.

Also, reheating all solder joints as detailed in this post very often fixes issues: http://www.byocelectronics.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=52188

Hi Morgan
I actually thought maybe there is an issue with the footswitch or wiring to it as the LED isn't on either at the moment. I will check it out in the next couple of days. Maybe I will even use a footswitch PCB to minimise wiring. Thanks again, mate.

Hi Morgan
Just letting you know that I have finally got around to looking at the Reverb pedal again and to my amazement, I have fixed it. Thanks so much for your help. Three things I did due to what you posted and what I have read from other people when pedal building and after these were done tonight, it sounds amazing.
Three things I did were-
1. Replace the resistor that was the wrong value (did that first up but didn't fix the problem so just put it back to schematic specs)
2. Resoldered every single point as I read this was important from another blogger building pedals. As this was one of my first pedal builds the soldering may not have been as good as I am doing now.
3. Replaced the footswitch as we discussed above. Rewired and new switch put in.
Great sounding pedal with great advice from this forum. Thanks Morgan. You're a Legend!!
