Build Your Own Clone Message Board

I have used an oscilloscope and signal generator in the past, but wonder if anyone has a tutorial on how to adjust the trim pots on a delay pedal. For example, where to place the probes on the circuit, what type of signal to generate (sine wave and Hz), what to look on the oscilloscope display? Tried do a search on this forum, but couldn't find anything. If any one has a tutorial or could provide any links to a tutorial would be appreciated.
