Hey all, my Echo Royal kit just got delivered today and I'm looking to get started on making the art for my waterslide decal. I noticed that on the finished BYOC enclosures that the knob with all the music notes is labelled as "tap multiplier". I've seen similar knobs with music notes around them on other pedals labelled as "subdivision" (or "div" for short") or "ratio". Are all of these terms interchangeable or is there a difference between them? I don't want to mislabel the knob on the Echo Royal, but if I don't have to try to squeeze in "tap multiplier" then I'll probably go with one of the shorter words lol.

I've noticed that Walrus uses "div" on some pedals but then "ratio" on others so that's why I'm thinking there's gotta be a difference lol.

They all mean the same thing. More importantly, this is your pedal, so you call that knob whatever the heck you want.

+1

That knob takes whatever BPM rate you tap out and multiplies it accordingly. The quarter note multiplies it by 1 (so no change here), dotted 1/8th by 1.5, 1/8th note by 2, triplet by 3, and 1/16th by 4. So IMHO, multiplier is the most accurate description. Maybe on other tap tempo programs they are dividing the original tap tempo BPM or using a ratio. Or if you're looking at your tap tempo rate in terms of milliseconds rather than BPM, then I suppose division or ratio makes more sense....there's more than one way to skin a cat when you write code, but using the MCU's internal clock to time the taps, converting that into BPM, and then simply multiplying it is what made the most sense to me.

Ultimately, call it whatever helps you understand what the knob does.
