I'm in the process of building my Analog Delay kit (DM2 clone). The order form says, "external nut DC jack must be used. Internal nut DC jack will not fit," but as I'm assembling the pedal, the DC jack sticks out the back of the enclosure by 1/4"! What's up with that?! It looks crappy, and it's not practical.

Looking in the enclosure with the PCB and external nut DC jack in place, I can't see how the internal nut DC jack wouldn't fit. I get that the nut would be a little difficult to turn, but there's DEFINITELY room for it. In fact, I even slid the external nut DC jack in place with the nut on the inside, and it fits just fine with room to spare.

Why are you saying the internal nut DC jack doesn't fit?!

That is curious. The instructions even picture an internal nut DC jack. I imagine it's an error on the order page, but I'm not sure. If you email sales@buildyourownclone.com and let them know why you ordered the wrong part, I expect they'll send you the other kind of DC jack at no charge. We can let the boss man know about the wording on the order page. (And if we find that there is a reason for it, I'll report back here.)

That said, it might be worth just trying it out and seeing if it bothers you as much as you expect it will. I have external nut DC jacks on about half of my builds, and I promise they are not less practical. (When it comes to troubleshooting non-working builds, they are actually far more practical.) I agree they don't look as good, but in my experience it's not noticeable once it's on your pedalboard. Just something to consider. It's your pedal, and it should look and work the way you want it to.

I apologize if I'm just overlooking something, but where are you seeing this statement? I can't find it anywhere on the Analog Delay product page. Could you provide the URL?

It's at the bottom of this page, at the end of the bolded paragraph with two asterisks.

Ah, there it is! Sorry!! Read the part about using only smaller knobs and looked right past that final statement!

Well, clearly, it's incorrect. The standard BYOC internal nut version fits just fine. That's what came in my AD kit, and you can see its installation below. I'll advise Keith of the misleading statement there on the product page.

The website is correct. The kits are now using the shallower 1590BB enclosures. The internal nut jacks no longer fit. Only the external nut jacks will fit. The solder terminals of the internal nut jack will hit the PCB.

And I have the older, deeper enclosure! Keith, how could I have doubted you!

Well...probably because you know how many mistakes I make. But...maybe you could fit an internal nut in there if you were willing to bend the solder terminals off to the sides.

Not sure why I didn't get any notifications of replies, but I see your thread now.

Maybe I got an older enclosure with my kit (?), but I slid the external nut jack all the way back, and the terminals don't hit the PCB. If it was an issue, I could certainly put a bit of shrink tubing on it to make sure it wouldn't ground out. I always make those leads (between the jack and PCB) extra long, anyway, so it's easier to disassemble if necessary.

Another option, I guess, would be to use a nut on the inside AND the outside so I can adjust how far the jack juts out... [searching my parts bins...]

Edit: I ordered a BARE ENCLOSURE, so maybe it's different than the painted one?

I just scrounged through my parts bins and I can't find a nut that will fit the DC jack. :/

I backed off the nut on the jack so the terminals project over the PCB, and there's 3/16" gap between the terminal and the PCB, so definitely no danger of it touching.

Can I email sales@ to get an internal nut jack sent to me?

And again, thanks for all your help!!!

I kind of like that the external ones stick out a bit. I have a bunch of 90 degree power cords for my power supply, and it's sometimes easier for them to clear the pancake-style plugs on the patch cables when the jack is sticking out a bit. But I guess it depends the specifics of the setup.

Yes.

I'm sure they'd be glad to send you one. (EDIT: Keith already beat me to it!)

IMO, the main advantage of the external nut DC jacks is that you can get the "guts" out of the enclosure without needing to unsolder any wires.

Great! Thanks again everybody!

Once I have it all assembled, I'll post a pic of my finished pedal. I got the kit because my original DM2 is far too valuable to take to gigs (though, I do use it in the studio), so I needed a clone to take out.

Hey, guys! Sorry for the delay (no pun intended). Life happens. I have the pedal fully assembled, but I haven't had a chance to adjust the internal pots yet. I'll work on that this week (I hope). Here's a few pics of my build!

Looks great, but your choice of control labels is....a-bismol!

LMFAO!!! My original 1982 BOSS DM2 (version 2) is sort of magenta, so I decided to make the clone a dark pink, and that led me to the Pepto reference. Of course, then I had to make jokes of the control names. LOL!

Actually, I realized last night I missed 2 wires connecting the foot switch to the PCB, so I'm doing that today, then I'll set up the internal pots.
