Yeah - that'll happen. If you tin your wires before making the connection (as suggested in Stephen's post), you should be able to keep the shrinkage down to a minimum. Also, make sure you clip the exposed tips of the wires as short as possible after soldering is finished.

Well I switched the pot around and sure enough, now the repeats knob doesn't work.

Well, off to smallbear to get a new pot. One question, is it Linear or Audio taper?

It's linear. Try emailing Keith. If you received a bad component with your kit, he will replace it.

Cool, but I'm not sure if it was my fault or not... Is there any way I could have damaged it short of holding the soldering iron directly on it for a few minutes?

Yes - you can damage a pot if you hold the soldering iron to the lug for too long. You can also damage it by allowing solder to seep into the inards. If you're not sure you may want to just order one. It'll be faster anyway.

Don't know if that will work, but try.

Hi Matt,

Where are you with this build? I was under the impression that you were going to order a new B100K pot for the fix. Did you get a new pot?

You switched the blend and repeats pots around and seemingly isolated the problem to a bad pot. We need to get a known good pot in there to make sure that is the problem.

Your soldering can still use some touch ups. The pedal may work fine once you get a new pot in, but those exposed leads and the suspect-looking solder blobs on the pot lugs can leave you open to additional problems with shorts.

Let me know where you are at with the build.

Hey, yaaaa..... uhh.... I really want to order the parts, but It's $30 after shipping :(

I'll save up for a bit and update you when I can (I'm 17, no job, lol)

Oh. Are you in Canada or overseas or something? There may be better options if that's the case.

Do you have a Radio Shack or some other chain electronics type store anywhere nearby? A pot shouldn't be as tough to get as a lot of other things are.

Or, isn't axeandyoushallreceive the Canadian distributor for BYOC? Do they carry parts?

The Source (Radioshack, but owned by circuit city) doesn't carry ANYTHING here. I asked the guy for a 16mm 100K Linear taper pot and he pointed me to a 24mm audio taper pot, insisting that it was the same thing.

Hey Matt - a couple of the moderators that live in Canada both reported that they typically pay 3-4 dollars for shipping from Small Bear and/or Pedal Parts plus. Maybe the website made a mistake or something - you might try it again.

So I just ordered the parts, an it only came to $16.47 Canadian.

I must have made a mistake last time I checked, but I'm glad it's not $30!

Anyway, I will tell you when I get the parts and solder them in :)

EDIT: The parts shipped today, I think it will take 2 weeks to get here though...

Hey, I got the parts, cleaned up the innards of the pedal, and re-soldered everything very slowly. Everything works fine now, and the pedal sounds GREAT! :D
