this is just a super simple but cool thing....

replace one of the two 914 diodes with an LED of your choice. It will light up and flicker according to your pick attack. Yeah not to advanced but I didn't see anyone here posting any mods for the envelope filter so I thought I'd try to start something.

Does anyone have any mods for the Envelope filter? Is there a way to add a resonance knob or something cool???? Anyone????

will this change the way the pedal sounds at all. i would like to do this but i dont want to mess with the sound. would it be better to add a led in addition to the diodes? will this take power away from the opt coupler led?

bump? i did the reverse sweep switch, really not worth it if your not switch happy. im also doing a sweep resistor switch, still trying to figure out how to get 470k,820k,1m all on one switch. i would like to add the led but i dont want to drill for it if its going to effect the sound at all, the pedal is very subtle as it is.

I would like to know the answer to this as well. Does switching one of the diodes with a LED effect the tone of the pedal as opposed to BYOC stock? Can you change both diodes to LED's (I guess what I mean is will they both flash) and will this effect the tone?

I am not sure what it would do to the tone because the only times I've really heard of using LEDs in the place of diodes is on overdrive and distortion pedals. And I'm not really in any rush to find out, because I am still trying to figure out what is going on with some peoples stock pedals, plus I like the stock pedal. I can only suggest that if you are interested, carefully switching out the diodes to LEDs and see what happens...

Well, I haven't built mine yet, so maybe I'll try it with LEDs first.

I recall Kahel and myself having a conversation about proposed, but unverified mods for the 440 circuit. The thread should be somewhere in this lounge.

All right jerks wads (jk lovingly) I'm going to rebuild my EF with a 4PDT toggle switch to switch between 0.022 and 0.033. AND! A footswitch to switch between UP sweeps and DOWN sweeps (Keith's proposed mod.) I will take one for the team, and by that I mean I will socket one of the 914s and try it with an LED. If it's cool I will expose to the outside of the case and to you.

I would not recommend swapping out the IN914s for LEDs. The IN914s are small signal silicon diodes with a forward voltage drop of 0.6 Volts that form the core of the envelope follower that derives the voltage from the input signal to sweep the filter. Fitting LEDs with a forward voltage drop of 2.5V would make the envelope follower quite a bit more inefficient and I would think radically change the way the Auto Wah responds (or envelope controlled swept filter if you prefer to call it that).

If you want a LED that shows the output of the envelope follower you need to add another isolating transistor to drive the LED driven from the output of the envelope follower. You would need to come off the junction of the 100K pot the 4.7uF and the base of the existing transistor.
