I built my Lazy Sprocket. Got it working great. Decided to swap out the red LED for a blue one to match the paint job. I did some searching around on this site, and I got the impression that I should just be able to swap it without changing any of the resistors.

So I did. The LED wouldn't light. So I removed the blue one, put a different red one in place. Didn't solder it, because it's my last red and I need it for something else. Just bent the prongs so that the LED was in place. Tried it again. Nothing. LED won't light at all.

What's the correct way to do this mod?
And how could I have screwed up something so simple? The pedal worked great before.

Thanks,
Alex.

Did you try flipping the LED around to see if you had it in backwards?

Have you tried hooking it up directly to a battery with a resistor to confirm that the LED works?

For the LS, make sure the SHORT leg goes in the the SQUARE pad. If you did not solder the red LED chances are it is not making a good connection and it won't light.

Thanks for the replies!

I've tried it with several different LEDs, so I think that effectively circumvents the 9v test. However, in case it doesn't, what sort of resistor do I need to use?

Are you serious about the SHORT leg going in the square hole? Um. I'm going to do some soldering and report back. If my lazy sprocket explodes, I'm going to find out where you live, hide in the bushes by the front door, and then kick you in the nuts when you come out for work in the morning.

Got my Lazy pedal working!

Thanks, guys!

It was that short leg/square hole thing. Is that normal? I swear it was always the long leg in the square hole.

Man. Lots of humbling experiences on the BYOC forum for me. (Such as the time I spent hours resoldering my pedal and getting increasingly frustrated because I failed to press the footswitch down far enough to actually turn it on.)
