Hi,

This is my first build and I have very little experience. When I click the footswitch, the LED lights up but I have no sound. I do have sound when in bypass mode. I have a multimeter but might need help knowing what to do with it. However, I'm willing to troubleshoot, I just don't know where to start.

I think your soldering could use some improving. Many of your solder joints look cold and/or starved. Pin 5 of the op-amp doesn't look like it got soldered at all. Same goes for the PCB's eyelet for lug 4 of the stomp switch.

If you could shrink the size of your pix a little and focus them better it might help us help you better.

Thanks Stephen. I'll try to upload them again although I'm not really sure what happened the first time.

Ok, I figured out how to submit a smaller size of the pics and edited my original post.

Now your pix are too small and don't show the kind of detail we need to see. Take a look at this thread. This is more like what we need to see in your pix.

Ah, ok. I'll try to get some pics up on the site when I get home from work tonight. Thanks Stephen.

Anybody have any advice on how to troubleshoot this?

Well you could check to see if you have sensible voltages at certain points.

With a multimeter switch to a suitable DC voltage range (20V is a good choice for digital multimeters) connect the black probe to the circuit ground (the effect case should be ground). With the pedal on very carefully (you DO NOT want to slip and short something out) take the red meter probe and touch its point to pin 8 of the 4558 IC. You should see something close to 9V (the battery voltage). Test pins 3 & 5 - these should be a half the battery voltage - so about 4.5V. Test pins 1 & 7 those also should be at half the battery voltage.
Test for +9 on pin 11 of the 13600 IC. If you do not get these voltages report what you do get. If you do not get +9 on pin 8 of the 4558 or on pin 11 of the 13600 that means these chips are not getting any power.

The other type of testing is to use an audio probe to follow an input signal through the circuit to see if and where it gets lost. You should be able to hear the signal with such a probe on the tip of the input jack and then follow it through the foot switch and through the input amp which is half of the 4558. And so on ...

It is a feature of this pedal that when on auto / envelope sweep, if the input signal is not reaching the envelope follower or the filter itself, the filter never opens up and when the filter is shut down it shuts down so far it does not pass any signal. This may be what is happening with your pedal. You have turned the Sensitivity control up past half way with the Attack pot set at about 1/3rd of its rotation?

So what happens if you flip the toggle switch to manual - do you hear anything then?
