Hi!

I have i "minor" problem. The fixed wah works fine but the envelope filter acts like a killswitch. All the parts are stock except the LED which I have replaced with a white ultrabright 9000mcd LED thingy..

I hope you can help me in some way..

:)

I would suspect either a bad toggle switch or a bad manual pot, but would also sugggest that you check the solder joints on both of those first.

Do you have a multimeter available to check circuit continuity?

I have checked the toggle switch and as far as I could see, there was no connection in the envelope filter position... so eh.. it will be replaced as soon as possible..
Thanks ;)

With the switch flipped to the Auto position you could just tack in a wire link across the pins to check that the pedal works in Auto.

I would also recommend you look at http://www.buildyourownclone.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=34270 which shows how to make the Manual control actually useful (that's assuming that BYOC have not introduced this mod into the kit already).

Hello again

I've messed around with the pedal and now there is a weak but very weak signal in the envelope filter (I have to turn up the amplifier to max so that it can be heard ...) I will soon be getting new IC's from my local dealer. Do you think new IC's will solve the problem?

Since you say that the EF works in manual mode I don't think that it is too likely that new ICs will solve your problem.

In manual mode the signal passes through one half of the dual op-amp (the 8 pin chip) and through all of the LM13600, the 16 pin chip, so a large chunk of the circuit is working and ALL the ICs are doing something. The only IC problem that would stop the auto mode working is if the other half of the dual op-amp was faulty, and that is extremely unlikely.

The circuitry that you need to troubleshoot for the auto problem includes the Sensitivity and Attack pots, the toggle switch, the components around that second half of the op-amp, the diodes and the transistor. Pretty much all the parts in the lower half of the circuit diagram.

So if I understand you right, you suggest me to troubleshoot the part of the circuit I have marked in red. Correct?

The pictures are from this thread.

Yes.

When you play a note into the pedal, that second half of the op-amp should massively amplify the signal. I think this should be enough that if you wind the Sensitivity pot up and connect a multimeter set to maybe 2V A.C. to the output of that op-amp (pin 7) you should see the a rise and fall of voltage on the multimeter. Likewise if you set the meter to 2V D.C. and connect to the + of C9 (Attack at min) you should see a rise and fall of DC.

It is this rising and falling voltage that drives current into the control pin of the LM13600, via the transistor, to auto sweep the Wah filter.

Good luck :D
