I just got the Lazy Sprocket kit but there is no 8 pin op amp socket. The instruction does not mention an op amp socket. Do I need an op amp socket? Will I damage the op amp if I solder it directly on the circuit board without the socket?

I have an extra op amp socket laying around in case if it is necessary .

It is good practice to use a socket. Not required, but it's nice should you need to troubleshoot.

Having a socket makes it a hell of a lot easier to swap IC's! I'd put one in.
