Hello,

I've built dozens of pedals, but am having a problem with a Lazy Sprocket that I am building pro-bono for a disabled man. Bypass works fine, but when the effect is turned on, it merely acts like a noise gate. On-Off. No swell. I've tried all kinds of control combinations to no avail. I tried swapping out the TL072 for another.

I am very experienced with a DVM and a signal probe. Though this effect is quite different than an OD. Any suggestions on how to trace this down?

That's a DMM. I'm DVM!

Let's start by getting a good set of photos posted here. Please make them large, well-focused & well-lit shots of BOTH sides of the PCB and all of the jack & switch wiring.

Ha! Must be a industry-specific moniker. I grew up calling it a Digital Volt Meter. I won't sully your name further :D

I don't have time to take it apart this morning, but here are a couple of shots of the top side. I was recycling an enclosure that I had laying around. I was stuck with the I/O location, so I had to use 3M (two layers, it isn't shorting to the case) to secure the PCB. I haven't pressed it in yet, it will come back out.

Sneak peek at the outside. My first try at laser engraving. They had some trouble with the file, and didn't consult me first. The fonts and some aspects of the graphics aren't as intended. It was an easy fix for the second one. Still looks pretty cool.

I'd like to see a clearer shot of the PCB, if that's possible, in order to check all the resistors.

I just figured out that I have a bad batch of 2N5457's while building another pedal. I'll pick up some more tomorrow and try replacing the one in this pedal. I bet it will work then.

Stay tuned.

It was indeed a bad JFET. It now works as advertised!

Glad you found the problem. That's a rather unusual one. Then again, compared to solder joint quality issues, they're ALL unusual problems! ;)
