Yes, sort of. It doesn't work as well on chords and you need a certain technique to make it sound right. You have to mute the previous note before picking the next one. It takes a little getting used to, but once you have it down, it is a cool effect.

Not as flexible of a technique as true volume swells, but W-A-A-A-Y-Y easier to do!!

Right. It's an approximation at best. But it is a cool effect on it's own, if you don't have too grand of expectations for it :)
