Buzz is usually a bad ground. Are the jacks wires properly?

OK, this is gonna seem kinda weird, but I'm pretty sure I see what the problem is. It appears that your pedal contains an inverted stereo (input) jack. Specifically, the ring and the tip on the jack are reversed in their positions. The sleeve (middle solder tab) is fine as is. All you need to do is to switch the wire connections between the two outer tabs; the black wire from the DC adapter negative tab needs to go to the input jack tab closest to the footswitch, while the tan input signal wire from lug 4 of the footswitch needs to connect to the jack tab closest to the PCB.

Back in 2011, BYOC received a shipment of these inverted stereo jacks from their supplier and some got into the parts inventory before the mistake was discovered. But I haven't seen one of those pop up in years.

EDIT: Hold on a second! Looking back at your original posts in this thread, the stereo jack was the correct configuration. Did you replace the jack? If so, where did you get this new one from?

Should I still try to switch the outer jacks?

I would absolutely do that. I doubt that there's anything wrong with the jack other than it is configured in the reverse orientation of the jacks that BYOC uses....and which their wiring diagrams are based upon.

If you're still not getting bypass signal, you need to follow the bypass signal path with your signal tester and determine where it's being lost. The bypass path is as follows:

Cable from guitar or previous pedal in signal chain --> input jack tip --> F/S lug 4 --> F/S lug 9 --> F/S lug 8 --> output jack tip --> output cable to amp or next pedal in signal chain

Sounds like something is not grounded properly to me. Could it be because I painted the enclosure?

Painting the inside of the enclosure can mess with the ground connection made by the input and output jacks, but painting the outside of it will have no such effect.

Can we see a couple of updated photos with the current state of the pedal?

Going to try with another output jack.

I will post back when I get a chance. Working on a bass guitar for a friend so I have been busy with that.

I love the jazz bass. It’s my favorite of all the guitars I’ve built. Are you building it from the ground up? I’m a super gearhead nerd.

I’ve done a few wudtone finishes, they look great.
I’ve found the effect to be rather subtle on the slow gear clone. I’m curious about the first one not working, and the second, you’re probably right about the jack, the audio probe will tell. Bypass comes in on pin 9 and out on pin 8.
