Your soldering isn't too bad, but it could be better. Mostly, it's just a lot of burnt flux (I'm assuming you didn't clean your tip regularly), and an unusual amount of flux residue in general. I'd say, replace the trimpot first and then we'll take it from there. But while your at it, try to clean up a little. Make sure you don't have any solder bridges. And get some isopropyl alcohol to clean up the flux residue.

For the trimpot, it was hard to tell from the instructions, but, on the board there are five spaces in the area for it so I was confused about where the two "front legs" go and may have gotten that wrong. Do those legs go into the "A" Column or the "B" Column (referencing the attached image)?

Doesn't matter. The A and B eyelets are connected on either side. The reason that there are two sets of eyelets for those front legs is that trimpots come in a couple of different geometries, so the PCB has the two different spacings to accommodate the particular trimpot you get in your kit. See marked up image of the back side of the Sprocket PCB where you can see the traces connecting the eyelets on each side. So just use the eyelets that fit your trimpot the best.
