Just curious about the 22k resistor marked with the * on the classic phaser. I think it's not supposed to be installed by default, but the instructions reference "script logo" vs "block logo" having something to do with it. Can anyone explain what adding this resistor vs leaving it out does for the pedal?

To quote the phaser king, jimilee: "Vintage sound with it, modern without it. Removing it gives a deeper phasing sound."

Lots of info about the Phase 90 here. Look for section 5.4, "The R28 Feedback Resistor." (Note that it was a 24k originally; I assume BYOC uses 22k because it is a much more common value, and thus easier to source—and the difference would be negligible.)

Reading up on the function of the resistor has led me to consider modifying the pedal to include a switch to add it in or remove it. If I added the resistor to one leg of a switch so it could be either with or without the resistor across the R28 I think that would work. If I drilled a hole in the enclosure to add the switch, I think it should work. However I'm not sure if the switch housing connecting to the pedal enclosure might ground it. Any thoughts on this possible modification?

The switch housing will be isolated from the connected lug of the switch, so no problem there. This is one of the easiest pedal mods available—I say go for it! We're here to help if you get stuck.

You could also socket R28 so you can easily check the two sounds and see if it's something you want to bother with before going to the trouble of installing the switch.
