I built the germanium boost a month ago and overall have been quite happy with it. I've played around with different resistance pots and germanium transistors. There is one issue i notice, when I turn my guitar's volume all the way down, or if I turn on my PolyTune 2 and cut the signal before the pedal (when on), there is a very light hiss that starts; it also will happen if I turn my guitar's tone knob all the way down. I was curious what might cause this.

Ge transistors are noisy. Some more so than others. The only thing you can do is get one with low noise and power it with a battery only cuz batteries don’t hum.
