I haven't had an issue so far and I've brought this completed germanium boost to some jams and what not. I'm looking at a potential trade and I'm worried that shipping will knock the unsoldered germanium transistor out of the three little holes it's placed in. I've definitely put it in the way it's supposed to (legs trimmed and component bent as in the instructions), but I'm wondering if it's possible to tape it securely in place without messing with conductivity?

Anyone have experience with this? Thanks!

Non-official advice follows:

You could tack solder it to the socket. You can create a heat sink on the leads to prevent damage to the transistor by holding it with pliers or an alligator clip above the solder point while applying heat. Just a little dab of solder at the point where the lead enters the socket should hold it just fine. But I would only do this if you are confident in your soldering skills and your ability to get it done quickly and cleanly. Other solutions that don't involve heat may work too. Some people use blue tack or even glue for this kind of thing. Or a piece of masking tape that holds the body of the transistor down in a way that doesn't allow the leads to touch each other or any other components or solder pads.

The truth is, if it's installed correctly as you say it is, it is probably perfectly fine to ship it.

If it's seated correctly in its socket, it will not come out in shipping.

Ok excellent guys I think I'll leave it be and take the risk as I'll probably fuck up the soldering idea since I've no conical tip at the moment etc.

Thank you

I recommend a hot glue gun. I've seen hot glue used in manufactured electronics to prevent connections from becoming unseated during shipping. It's non-conductive and easily removed if need be.
