Finished the build. Enjoyed it. However, the boost side sounds muffled and dark, certainly not "transparent". The gain side is ice-picky and thin with the Treble,when all the way off is barely tolerable and turned up is terrible high.
So... what did I do wrong? Can I fix this?

I may be wrong, but it looks to me like you swapped around a 47K (yellow-purple-black-red-brown) and a 4.7K (yellow-purple-black-brown-brown) resistor in the positions I've circled on your photo:
