Completed my build yseterday afternoon. Let me apologize firstly for not having a way to get pictures to post so I will be as detailed in what I am doing as possible if a bit repetitive. Second admission, I didn't continuity check the PCB leads before starting. Third admission, electronics rookie. after completing a successful 808 Screamer build yesterday(this pedal sounds great) this is my second day doing circuit work (kudos on rookie workability and getting started tips and techniques both on sales site and the board here).

Now, getting sound through bypass. Getting sound on all 3 modes. Getting brilliant red and green led. Faint flickering blue led. Great amount of boost in clean and trim pot adjusts level correctly. Getting slight boost in germainium mode. Shaping switch works. Getting little or no gain in linear mode.

Started researching and found this, this (which i actually posted this to in the wee hours of this AM but decided today to create a new topic to try to generate more looks), and similar threads. i went back across the board and reflowed all solder joints through out, and since I get sound I don't think I have a cold joint. Checked Duracell 9v to ~8.2v. Will get fresh battery this PM.

Started checking continuity. My DMM has an audible continuity check. Most straight forward continuity checks from schematic work out, like rotary switch passes from IN to xIN's and OUT to xOUT's, IN TIP to OUT TIP, etc. Could someone let me know what other parts of the circuit to check

Continuity on rotary LED pad to 4 led pads with the switch changes below gives me inconsistent results. Setting rotary switch to:
  • Clean. Checking probe on LED pad to probe on g pad gives audible and green led was already lit, LED to r gives audible with red light, LED to c gives audible with no light, LED to b pad gives no audible with no light.
  • Linear. DMM leads as above. LED to b gives audible with no light, LED to c audible no light, LED to r no audible red light, LED to g no audible green light
  • Germanium. DMM leads as above. LED to r gives audible with red led already lit, LED to c audible no light, LED to b no audible no light, LED to g no audible green light

What do I have going on here? checked for solder bridges none I could see, but things are awfully tight. I'm waiting on helping hand with magnifying lens to arrive via UPS. So, I went ahead and mimicked the earlier post in this thread and "lifted" red and blue traces with knife and wired from rotary switch to pads with the same test results as above. Any ideas where I need to go next?

TIA

mmc

If I understand everything you're saying, the Clean and Germanium modes seem to be working normally. You may or may not have an issue with the sound on the Linear, but the LED does appear to have an issue.

Does the LED light at all in Linear mode? I should say, when it flickers, does it turn a different color or just go out? If it goes out, I would reccomend checking the blue LED circuit. Test for continuity from the rotary switch input to the LED output when in Linear mode. Then work through the circuit. If you have full continuity from the switch to the LED "B" connection, check for voltage at the same spots.

Btw, see if you can find somebody with a digital camera to borrow. Pics will be helpful.
