I just built the triboost. The germanium and mosfet modes work perfect. But the clean mode sounds like a broken clipping type sound. the volume is significantly lower than the other modes and the trimpot doesn't seem to do much.

I tried swapping the 1M with a 560K and that seemed to make the clipping worse. this is per this thread http://board.buildyourownclone.com/viewtopic.php?t=7138

Any other ideas? I've done all the other troubleshooting steps.

Update: reflowed everything. Now the clean boost works but the signal is lower than bypass and the mosfet is super fizzy.

Pics later. My camera is on a trip with my girlfriend.

I replaced the 1M with another 1M resistor and linear mode is working fine now.

The clean channel just doesn't have the volume of the bypassed signal.

Sorry I wasn't around much this weekend. Yeah, pics is what we need next.

Are you saying that the volume on the clean is lower than bypassed even with the volume turned up all the way? If not, how far up are you turning it?

Yup, maxed out and it's not as loud as the bypassed signal. And the trimpot is set to the loudest part.

I'm not really sure what pictures are going to show you, all the components in the clean boost part are correct and my soldering is fine.

I'll see if I can get my phone's camera to produce a clear shot.

Well, the most likely part to see fail is the BS170 tranny. They are pretty sensitive. You could try a new one if you have one around, or perhaps email sales to see if they will send you a new one.
