Hey

New here, but not the first kit i build.

It's nice (wah), i like it a lot. was i nice build. thinking of moving it to a rack unit and use the rocker as a remote - BUT, there came a part with the circuit that i don't know what is... does anybody have a clue?

i couldn´t find anything with the search function - but i am sorry if there allready should be a thread with this.

here you go

thanks for the help

P.S - is it normal that there is some white noise when its on? (it just hum's a bit... not bad - but not quiet - but it works as it should)

That's a snap ring. It looks like it might be a retainer to keep the pivot pin from coming out.

Here's a photo that sort of gives you an idea of how it would be used...

Did you purchase a kit with an enclosure? I haven't seen the enclosure that comes with the kit so I could be wrong as to what it's for.

Regarding the hum... what are you using to power the pedal? If it's a garden variety wall wart power supply my guess is the power supply is the problem.

does the wah pot normally have snap ring on the outside of the wheel? (looks like there is a groove on the pot shaft)

thanks

That's another possibility. I just took a look at a spare Hot Potz II I have and it has a snap ring keeping the gear on the shaft. If that's where it's from it must not have been installed properly at the factory.

cool. thanks for the help. I appreciated it very much.

I will try to get it on the pot then - but it is pretty tight.
An with the power supply - yes, it's a single wall wart power supply...
i'm in the middle of a bigger project - where i have to find a way with a good power supply solution - so i'm on the way. :)

Thanks again.

My kit also came with that snap / split ring. It was just loose in the bag of parts. Couldn't get it on the shaft of the pot… way too small.

You need to use a specific tool to stretch such a clip onto a shaft. It looks like a little pair of pliers that actually open when you squeeze them. The end of the jaws have little pins that fit in the tiny holes on the clip.

I didn't bother with mine since the rack is already at the far end of the round gear anyway. That gear would have to slip way off to eventually miss the teeth in the rack. Not concerned.

If somebody notices this old thread reply.

My drop in kit came with two of these little clips. No mention anywhere what they're for. Didn't have them in a full kit from way back.

I've gotten a few wah enclosures assembled and not. Never seen these used for anything.

its for the end of the pot shaft. the shaft is a "D-shaft" so it is recommended to put that at the end so the pinion (round gear) doesnt slide off. you can spread it carefuly with needle nose pliers, or find some "snap ring pliers" to spread the ring properly. it is supposed to be tight on the shaft, inside the horizontal groove at the end.

Tonight's entertainment will be the musical stylings of Leprechaun Cockring. This band out of Dicktown, NJ is influenced by such bands as The Sex Pistols, Butthole surfers, and Michael Jackson. Opening for them this evening is that up and coming band, BeaverLick. Enjoy, and please remember to tip your waitress.
