Hello everybody,

I bought my kit a couple weeks ago, i finally wired it all up and i'm getting LEDS but no signal whatsoever. Even in bypass i get nothing, no guitar sound. Also a loud hum is constantly going when you're plugged in and when i touch lugs 3,6,9 on the bass only switch and it gets louder. I read some other posts and nothing was exactly the same so I'm hoping i can get some help.

Thanks a lot!

Hi - welcome to the forum! :D

You want to zero in on not having signal in bypass first. This pedal is true bypass, so you should have signal through the pedal even if the pedal doesn't work. Check the aux output for signal as well. No signal in bypass will be due to bad wiring or a bad solder joint on the bypass footswitch or jacks.

You can chase it down relatively easily. Do you have a digital multimeter and do you know how to take continuity readings?

Hello again,

My dad and i finally got around to working on the pedal and he found that there was a bad trace between the input and the bypass switch so he just wired it across. Now we get signal and all functions are working it's just the tracking is spotty, i would sustain one note and it would jump octaves (up/down) randomly. We've tried reflowing the solder joints and double checking the components and recently we troubleshooted the ic units and decided to order some replacements. I believe i added the ic units too early and maybe they got too hot. I'm still waiting on the replacements but any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

That sounds completely normal. The circuit produces a glitchy sound like that, and that is part of the reason people love the originals. Remember, this is early 1970's analog tech we're dealing with. It is not going to compare with digital tech in more modern stuff like the whammy or pog.

Hi,
I'm Maxbass4's Dad. Riffraff you were right, those caps were in backwards. However it didn't change anything. I would describe the sound as more that the low octave drops in and out intermittently. Not really a tracking problem. Thanks for the help.

That still sounds right to me. That is what the few I've had do. This circuit does that. It doesn't seem to grab as well as something like a Boss Octaver. Have you compared the build to YouTube videos of the original? That can help sometimes.

Or if you can post a YouTube clip of yours, that can help.

Morgan thanks so much. That's exactly what this one is doing. Glad to know that it works. My son's first build and he picked such a complicated pedal. Only mistake was those two capacitors. Appreciate everyone's help!
