My kit came with Germanium Diodes that have a blue stripe and what looks like a grayish stripe on the other end.

Is the gray side the cathode? Or is the blue striped side the cathode?

I am guessing the blue end is the anode.

When in doubt about the leads of a diode you can always test it by placing the diode in series with an LED / CLR circuit. When you apply power the LED will only light when the diode is forward biased. If the LED doesn’t light up you’ll know that the diode is in the circuit backwards.

Using my meter as a test, I found the grayish stripe goes in the square opening. Hope my response is not too late--if I'm wrong let me know.

Thanks.
