Is there much difference between an octave up and a pitch shifter to get the same sound?

Depends. There are different types of octave up. If it's an analog octave up, it's going to sound quite different. If it's digital, like you'd find on a POG, then it probably won't be that different from a pitch shifter.

How about a multi pitch unit? Can I get an Octave and a 5th out of a pedal??? hmmmmmmm
