Hey all,

So I just finished putting together my first pedal, the Divided Octave. When I first plugged it in I saw that the LEDs were working, and I was really confident about the result. Next, I plugged in my bass and the by-pass signal also worked fine. Now the problem. When I hit the "On" Button the signal disappears and I m left with silence. I searched through the forum, but I didn't find any post about this exact issue. Does anybody know what may have gone wrong? Here are some pictures of my PCB.

Thanks!
Lionel

The first IC at the top of the PCB just below the DC jack should be a MAX1044 charge pump (though it might also be labeled 7066S or LT1054) and you have one of the 4558's installed there. Locate where you installed the charge pump and swap the two around, then retest and see where you're at. Some of your soldering looks very questionable so the pedal might still have problems, but it may very well work with the IC's in the correct places.

Thank you very much for your comment! I exchanged the ICs. Unfortunately, however, the problem remains, as soon as I hit the on button the signal disappears. You also mentioned that some soldering looks questionable. Could you tell me which part of the soldering looks bad, this pedal is my first experience with soldering on a PCB.

Cheers

Most of the PCB component soldering looks pretty good. It's the off-board wiring connections that are quite poor. You also have a lot of protruding component lead ends on the back of the PCB that should be trimmed down to the solder joint, since they can cause shorts. I would recommend reading through the following guide postings and apply them:

Thank you for the links, I ll re-solder the off-board wiring and will cut off the excess leads. I ll tell you if it works!
